Thorpe Willoughby is a village school, catering for children between four and eleven. It is situated 2.5 miles outside the market town of Selby. It is approximately twelve miles south of York.

The school was opened in 1970 and further extended in 1980. The premises include ten classrooms and a TV/ resource room. In addition, the school has an ICT suite, a central hall, shared areas and library, together with offices, staff room and store areas.
The grounds are a delightful mix of grassland, garden and playground. The two playgrounds have recently installed playground equipment on the grassy areas. This is very popular with our children! We also have a playing field and a conservation garden that allows us to extend the children's learning outside the classroom.

The emphasis in the school is to ensure that the children achieve high standards whilst make learning enjoyable and relevant. To this end we have tried to create an atmosphere in which our children can thrive. All parts of the school have comfortable areas, surrounded by attractive displays of their work reflecting the curriculum. The importance attached to the work of the children can be witnessed throughout the school in the care which is taken in our attractive displays.

We have a hard working, dedicated and talented staff and a very active and supportive Governing Body and Friend's Association.

The Thorpe Willoughby Child Care Centre is very closely associated with the school and we enjoy a very close working relationship. The Child Care Centre provides a quality Early Years education and care for many of our children before and after school.

I hope you enjoy your visit to our website.
