Sporting achievements from Spring 2017

Spring 2017 has been an excellent term for sport at Thorpe Willoughby Primary School.

Our Y5/6 Netball team played brilliantly on the 28th February at Selby High School

and are now through to the Finals in April.

Our Y3/4 Hockey team showed great skills on the 13th March

at Selby High school and came second.

We are hoping we are through to the final.

Our Gymnastics squad also performed amazingly on 22nd March

at Carlton Holy Family High School.  We had three teams from KS1, LKS2 and UKS2.

We came first, third and fifth in our groups and our KS1 team are now through

to the North Yorkshire finals in April.

Football News

Thorpe Willoughby School is also taking part in the English Schools Football Association league.  We have a brilliant football team, who practise each week after school every Wednesday.  We have played 3 successful games already – winning 2 – and are looking forward to more games in the New Year.  Our girl’s football team are also in the ESFA 7-a-side cup.  They have played 2 games, winning both convincingly and are now into the Semi-Finals against Barlby CP School.

Cross Country

We ran at the Brayton High School Cross Country Tournament in October. 44 KS2 children ran on this morning and twenty children came placed in the top 10 for their races.  The Selby District Cross Country Final was held on 16th November 2016 at Tadcaster Grammar School and all 20 runners ran superbly, competing against the best runners in the Selby area.  Six of our children came placed in the top 8 and are now through to the North Yorkshire Cross Country Championships in March.

Handball

We started in September with a Handball tournament at Brayton High School, with 10 Y3/4 children.  Winning all but 1 of our matches and winning our league.

On Monday 25th January 2016, we took part in the Selby District Cross Country Championships at Tadcaster Grammar School.

Over 1000 children took part and only the top 8 runners from each race are invited to attend the North Yorkshire Cross Country KS2 Championships.  Thorpe did exceptionally well and we are delighted to have 7 children who will be running in this final on March 17th at Dalby Forest.

All 34 children ran brilliantly and showed great sportsmanship and stamina.  We can back very muddy but happy. Look at the Image gallery to see how hard our pupils worked!!

On Tuesday 12th January 2016 Adrian Kennings from the British Wheelchair Basketball Association came into school with 15 specialist wheelchairs and gave the children in Years 5 and 6 a brilliant experience in this sport.

Everyone had a brilliant day and we learnt so much about inclusive sports for the disabled and able-bodied.  Hopefully he will return in the Summer term to teach us more about Wheelchair Basketball.
